Mountain in the Mist

If you want to know the One
then turn the light of mind around
to see who’s looking through your eyes.

This evening’s frosty scene:

a wintry hush has settled over the mountain,
blanketing the whole white world in silence.

Old memories lie abandoned at the threshold of night,
while my heart gently yields to the darkening unknown
hovering like an impersonal angel around my meager camp.

Shivering, huddled against the oncoming freeze,
youth’s questions and answers long forsaken,
no fire to make tea, I’m an echo of a rumor
sounding faintly in the swirling mists.
